More than two thirds of public sector managers claim cyber security threats are posing a serious risk to their operations, according to a new report.
The study, titled Managing threats in a dangerous world and published by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), also revealed nearly a third of public sector organisations have had a cyber attack in the last year.
The report also examined how prepared organisations were for unexpected and damaging disruptions to their day-to-day operations over the past year.
Almost one in five public sector organisations lost confidential information and 11% suffering a significant attempt to hack into their network in the last year.
Physical factors, such as heavy snow, disrupted most companies (96%) and the volcanic ash cloud affected half.
The Wikileaks revelations have caused 22% of public sector organisations to revisit their security arrangements.
Chief executive of CMI, Ruth Spellman, said: ‘Today’s report shows that UK businesses must follow the example of the public sector and be better at putting plans in place to deal with disruptions to their day-to-day business.’
