A Tower Hamlets councillor has pleaded guilty to housing fraud after appearing in court yesterday.
Cllr Shahed Ali, who represents the Whitechapel ward, appeared in Snaresbrook Crown Court in relation to one count of fraud under Section 3 of the Fraud Act 2006 - failure to disclose information.
He did not notify the council of a change in his circumstances between the date that he completed a housing application form and the date that he accepted a council tenancy.
Cllr Ali also did not disclose that he owned two properties.
‘Following Cllr Ali’s guilty plea, we will now await his sentencing, which will take place on Thursday, October 27,’ said a Tower Hamlets spokesperson.
