Welsh finance chiefs vote in favour of CIPFA region

Public finance experts in Wales have voted overwhelmingly for the creation of a new CIPFA region covering the country.

More than 90% of CIPFA members polled backed the creation of the new region, which will be formally announced by CIPFA president, Jaki Meekings Davis, at the organisation’s Conference of the Regions in Birmingham on 23 September.

Maria Jones, head of CIPFA Wales Cymru, said: ‘I am delighted that Wales is now a CIPFA region.

‘We will be able to plan a manageable and effective approach to the delivery of high-quality public financial management, where CIPFA’s expertise is invaluable.’

CIPFA confirmed the creation of the new region would, over the next few months, necessitate ‘constitutional and administrative handover’.

As part of plans to manage that handover, CIPFA members and students will be invited to explanatory meetings.

CIPFA Wales Cymru will also provide further details of what the changes will mean on regional websites.
