The Welsh Government has dropped its controversial plan to end the legal requirement to publish council tax notices in local newspapers.

Editors had warned the ‘dangerous provision' in the Local Government Finance (Wales) Bill could be detrimental for democracy and would hit local newspaper revenue.

Minister Rebecca Evans told the Senedd she did not think the loss of revenue would have much impact on local newspapers but acknowledged there needed to be a ‘wider discussion’.

‘I do absolutely recognise the strength of feeling amongst colleagues on this particular issue, and I'm always keen to find areas of compromise, where we can, and to work with other parties.’
