Wales’ economy minister has said he would consider funding bids from a new council partnership that crosses the Welsh and English border.

Despite the potential for some of the financial benefit to go to councils in England, Vaughan Gething told The MJ there was ‘no ideological barrier’ to such funding bids being considered by the Welsh Government.

Speaking on the fringes of a conference in Cardiff organised by the senior officers’ group Solace, the minister admitted ‘resourcing was always an issue’ but the Welsh Government was focused on ‘enabling people to make those choices for themselves’.
