The trade union Unite has suspended a planned three-day strike across education and local government in Scotland after receiving a ‘serious’ pay offer from employers.

Unite announced that following a meeting of its local government committee today it would suspend strike action scheduled for next week to ballot members on an improved offer from the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA).

COSLA’s fresh offer represented a minimum increase of £2,006 for those on the Scottish local government Living Wage and a minimum of £1,929 for all those above that benchmark backdated to 1 April.

Local government’s hourly Living Wage of £10.85 would also rise to £11.89 - equivalent to a 9.6% increase.
