TrustID, a leading expert in identity verification, is one of the first Identity Service Providers (IDSPs) to receive UKAS certification for the Home Office digital Right to Work (RtW) and Right to Rent (RtR) schemes, and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) digital identity scheme.
From 1 October 2022, measures for remote RtW and RtR checks will change. The current Covid exemptions that permit video calls and not seeing original identity documents as evidence of RtW or RtR will be replaced by a new option of digital identity checks as per the Home Office scheme. Employers and landlords have until 30 September 2022 to ensure they have the necessary processes in place to carry out fully compliant RtW and RtR checks.
Although not yet compulsory for RtW and RtR, government guidance strongly recommends that employers and landlords work with a certified IDSP to digitally verify identity documents to comply with the updated RtW and RtR guidance and ensure the necessary Level of Confidence is met. For DBS checks, employers must work with a certified IDSP to carry out digital identity checks.
Tony Machin, CEO of TrustID said, “Introducing these schemes is the start of a longer-term government policy to create a digital ecosystem in the UK. These schemes, that we are now certified for, will make life easier for employers and landlords and their prospective employees and tenants. By using certified IDSPs as per the government scheme, they are also ensuring the highest level of compliance.”
With its new certified status, TrustID offers employers, landlords and DBS checking service providers certainty of compliance and greater confidence that they are not at risk from identity fraudsters. “For TrustID, this certification reinforces our position as a leading provider of identity verification and Right to Work services” Machin said. “Certification to these digital schemes means that we can validate identity and confirm eligibility, whether an organisation is onboarding remotely or face-to-face. We can help organisations to confirm that an applicant is who they say they are in a way which fits their processes and supports their compliance.”
