Toad rescuers in Bath have broken a new record by helping the highest number of amphibians cross the road in 14 years.

Over 50 volunteers spent more than 600 hours assisting 3,177 amphibians to reach their breeding lake by closing a half mile stretch of Charlcombe Lane between 12 February and 25 March.

Bath and North East Somerset Council has supported the patrol and road closure since 2003.

The Charlcombe Toad Rescue Group raises funds to cover administrative costs, and VolkerHighways sponsors the group with signage.
