Staff praised for supporting peace event

Birmingham City Council’s events staff were praised for their behind-the-scenes efforts in co-ordinating a community-led peace event with little more than 36 hours’ notice.

Staged under the banner of ‘One city, one voice for peace’ the council lent its support by helping event planners liaise with other organisations, including the police, fire and ambulance services to ensure proceedings ran smoothly. A team of stewards was provided to manage traffic restrictions and support activities at Summerfield Park.

Cllr Mike Whitby, leader of Birmingham City Council, said: ‘After some of the terrible scenes witnessed over the last week, this was a great opportunity to show how united Birmingham is. By standing shoulder to shoulder, we are showing the world what the real Birmingham is all about.’
