Southampton City Council has formed its own voluntary improvement board as it battles budgetary pressures.
Chaired by Theresa Grant - the interim chief brought in to turn around failing Liverpool City Council and Northamptonshire CC - the board aims to transform services and avoid a financial collapse.
Other board members include Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy boss Rob Whiteman, former director of children’s improvement at the Local Government Association Trevor Doughty and Buckinghamshire Council’s director of adults and health Craig McArdle.
Southampton chief Mike Harris said: ‘We believe that establishing a voluntary improvement board of industry experts to oversee our improvement and transformation plans is the best way for us to address the financial challenges we face.’
