Some left short in equal pay deal

Birmingham City Council is set to introduce a new equal pay structure, resulting in 12% of council staff seeing a salary reduction.
Under the proposals, more than 88% of staff will see their salaries rise or remain the same. Although 12% of staff will initially see a reduction in their salary, this figure will fall to 7% by the time ‘standstill’ protection arrangements end.
‘Standstill’ arrangements will protect the basic salary, at current levels, of any staff set to lose money, until April 2010.
