A new 10-year plan has been rolled out to drive job growth and skills development in Rotherham.
An announcement from Rotherham Council last Friday confirmed that the Rotherham Plan 2026–2036 strives to support young people in securing training and advancing their skills, as well as enhancing town centres, improving connectivity, and boosting community pride.
It outlines how opportunities are to be produced for local people through the council’s partnership working with health services, police, businesses, and voluntary groups.
The move follows the success of the local authority’s borough-wide plan in 2017, which assisted over 1,000 residents in finding work and training, generated investment for neighbourhoods and the police, boosted healthcare access, and helped with regeneration projects.
However, Cllr Chris Read, Leader of Rotherham Council, said that ‘no one is in any doubt about how much more there is to be done in order to create the opportunities that Rotherham people deserve’.
‘For too many people it’s still a battle to make ends meet, and poor health is a long-term struggle’, Cllr Read said.
He added: ‘Now this plan sets out how we can seize the decade of opportunity in front of us, creating thousands of jobs and new opportunities in the Don Valley Corridor and beyond, in a local economy that works better for everyone; how we can secure mainline train services and all that comes with them, and build high streets and public spaces that we can be proud of.’
