An independent report has recommended Doncaster MBC’s children’s services responsibilities be transferred over to an independent trust.
The report, which was published today and originally commissioned by education secretary Michael Gove, calls for an independent trust to be set up to run all Doncaster’s children’s services, except those that are currently part of the education department.
The report also states the proposed, not-for-profit independent trust could take on other responsibilities, including children’s public health services and the Stronger Families Programme.
Solihull MBC chief executive and lead on children’s services for the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE), Mark Rogers, said: ‘We are sceptical that a complex, uncertain and time-consuming organisation restructure would be helpful at this time.
‘The Department for Education and Ofsted need to give any model the time and space to achieve sustainable development.’
