Reeves scraps care charging reforms amid spending cuts image

Adult social care charging reforms delayed by the Tories will be scrapped, saving more than £1bn by the end of next year, chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced as she made billions of pounds in spending cuts after ordering the Treasury to carry out an audit of the UK's public finances.

Some £5.3bn announced in 2021 had been slated to implement a package of reforms, including the cap on costs that the previous Government had pushed back to October next year.
