Record entries give judges a tough task

A total of 173 local authority projects have been shortlisted or commended in The MJ Local Government Achievement Awards 2008.
The prestigious awards, with 16 categories, received a record response of entries and the final 16 winners drawn from the shortlist will be announced at a gala awards dinner at London’s Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, presented by Channel 4 news presenter, Jon Snow, on 26 June.
There were 97 finalists and 76 commended, details of which appear in a special awards brochure enclosed in The MJ this week.
The MJ’s editor, Michael Burton, said: ‘The quality of entries grows from strength to strength, reflecting the ever-improving and increasingly-innovative range of projects undertaken by local authorities. As usual, the judges faced a real challenge in having to draw up the finalists from a very strong list.’
