Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner will be handed £1bn in next week's Budget as she plans to double council house building, national newspapers have reported.

Reports have suggested that Rayner, who is housing secretary, wants a ‘revolution' in council homebuilding and will be given the money over 18 months.
