Brits are twice as likely (66%) to say 'yes' to new local developments if they are green projects than if they are non-green developments (33%), according to a new survey.

The study of 2,000 homeowners found that 67% of of the British popultion support the development of renewable energy projects like wind and solar projects.

Commissioned by the green enery provide Ripple Energy, the poll also found that 65% agree that the Government must do more to support the transition to renewables.

Support was highest among the younger generations, with 88% of 18-24 year olds being more supportive of renewable energy projects if they could own a part of it.

However, 59% of Baby Boomers also claim environmental issues are much higher up their agenda now than five years ago.

Sarah Merrick, founder and CEO of Ripple Energy said: ‘Public opinion has shifted towards the proud support of more renewable energy projects, and people are more receptive to green developments today than they were even five years ago.

‘It’s now widely recognised that renewable energy projects are the key to safeguarding our environment, combating climate change, and achieving energy independence.’

Renewable energy infrastructure ranks in the top five developments local residents would welcome in their neighbourhood. Designated wildlife habitats (58%), urban green spaces (53%) and the building or retro-fitting of energy efficient buildings (34%) are other green developments that people would welcome.
