Plea for Rayner to write off £5.7bn Surrey debt

The Government should write off the £5.7bn of debt facing Surrey's districts to facilitate reorganisation, council leaders have urged.

Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner said last week that council debt would not be written off by the Government as part of reorganisation.
