Preston City Council has put in plans that would see a Grade II Listed former magistrates court become a workplace hub.
Redeveloping Amounderness House was part of Preston’s Towns Funds bid in 2021.
The council said the proposal aims to bring the building, which was constructed in 1857 and has been vacant for more than 20 years, back into use while securing its long-term future.
The plans involve the demolition and replacement of the rear extension and other alterations to the building to provide offices and retail or craft units. The tarmac courtyard would also be redeveloped to create a new public space.
The former courthouse is within Preston’s ‘Market Square’ Conservation Area.
Planning documents state: ‘The existing building has potential to make a much better contribution to its surrounding conservation area setting and also a greater positive contribution to the active, social and economic core of Preston City centre.’
