Petition calls on tower blaze council cabinet to quit

A petition with more than 1,500 signatures has demanded the entire cabinet at Kensington & Chelsea RLBC should quit over its handling of the Grenfell fire.

The petition read: ‘The cabinet’s decisions across a series of departments have culminated in the horrifying and completely avoidable loss of life in the catastrophic fire at Grenfell Tower on June 14.

‘Given the council’s failure to respond to the litany of safety and fire concerns raised by Grenfell Tower residents, we have no confidence in this council’s ability to manage or build public buildings.’

However, the council has downplayed expected changes to its senior councillors, with a spokesman insisted any changes to the cabinet were to be expected following the election of a new leader.
