A petition calling for the creation of a new town council in Salford has been submitted to Salford City Council.

The petition, which has received more than 1,000 signatures, calls for more powers to be devolved to the local community.

The proposal to create the Town of Broughton Park Council has been dubbed BrePxit (Broughton Park Exit) by Salford councillor Andrew Walters, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Cllr Walters, who submitted the petition, said: ‘A new local council would provide the community with a focus for tackling the issues that affect us, provide us with a louder voice and enable us to more easily tackle the issues that we face.’
