A new director of public health for North Tyneside has been named. Marietta Evans has been appointed jointly by North Tyneside MBC and North Tyneside PCT, and will take up her new role on 3 October.
Mrs Evans, who has a strong background in driving local initiatives to improve health, has been working in South Tyneside for the past four years, first as a public health specialist and, since late 2008, as director of public health.
Prior to that, Mrs Evans worked in Sunderland for 20 years in health promotion, and subsequently, specialised in public health.
In her new role, she will have a leading role to play in implementing new arrangements for health improvement. Under the NHS reform proposals, this responsibility will transfer from primary care trusts to local councils.
