Parents hear of tutor dangers

Councils have been urged by the LGA to encourage parents to be vigilant when hiring a tutor for their children.
The LGA’s children and young people board chairman, Cllr Les Lawrence, told the Birmingham conference that parents should be made aware that currently private tutors do not need to undergo a criminal records check.
One in four families in the UK currently employs a private tutor and the peak time is during the summer school holidays.
Cllr Lawrence said: ‘As local authorities increase their vigilance and criminal records board checks are extended widely, abusers are moving to find other ways to avoid detection.’
