Ofqual has updated its interactive analytics platform to show exam results broken down by local authority, ahead of this year's A Level and GCSE results days.
It marks the first time qualification outcomes and subject uptake will be published at local authority level, offering students, policymakers and the public a more detailed regional picture across England.
Users can now explore GCSE, A Level, T Level and Performance Table Qualification results by local authority district, administrative county or unitary authority, and region – replacing the previous ceremonial county breakdowns.
Sir Ian Bauckham, Ofqual's Chief Regulator, said clearer local data would help leaders and families understand performance in their own areas as decision-making devolves closer to communities.
‘As power and accountability shift to local areas, it’s more important than ever that those on the ground have the evidence they need to serve their communities well,’ he added.
The Education Policy Institute's Jon Andrews said the breakdowns would enable timely analysis of regional inequalities.
‘Results days remain one of the highlights of the education calendar. While they are primarily about the thousands of students who are receiving their results, they also consider how the system as a whole is performing. These new breakdowns will allow us to make a timely analysis of inequalities in outcomes across the country,’ he commented.
