The leader of Nottingham City Council has backed proposals that would see the authority merge with two other councils.

Cllr Neghat Khan said the city council believes that the ‘most sustainable model’ for Nottinghamshire would be two new unitarities.

This would involve a new authority that combines Nottingham City Council with any two of Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe.

However, she added that the city council was also ‘open to other city + 2 models, that have not yet been fully explored.’

‘I remain committed to working with my Leader counterparts, especially during the next phase, which will require a more detailed analysis of individual options, to ensure that LGR [local government reorganisation] delivers the best outcomes for local communities,’ said Cllr Khan.
