Chippenham Town Council has announced it will leave social media platform X amid ‘a significant increase in unfiltered and inappropriate content’.

The Wiltshire authority said while the social networking site, formerly known as Twitter, had been ‘a great place to engage’ with the community, recent changes had made it reconsider its presence on the platform.

The council said it had also noticed a decline in engagement and relevant interaction, and concluded that it no longer felt ‘appropriate’ to remain on X.

It said its account would be removed on 1 November, giving other council accounts like Chippenham Museum and Stanley Park Sports Ground time to inform their followers about the change.
