‘No delay in chief’s recruitment’ says LGA

The Local Government Association has denied a delay to shortlisting for its new chief executive, despite widespread rumours of a failure to draw up the candidate list last week.

Shortlisting for the post should have taken place during the LGA annual conference in Birmingham.

However, one recruitment insider told The MJ there had been a ‘slight hiatus’ in proceedings but the shortlist was now complete.

The delay was thought to have been caused by the election of a chairman to the association. Cllr David Parsons, the unsuccessful candidate, had claimed he would halt the recruitment process and several candidates were reluctant to put in their applications for the vacancy unless the process was going ahead.

The LGA refused to comment on the progress of the recruitment process.
