Nick Jones is new Traffic Comm issioner for Wales

The Secretary of State for Transport has appointed Nick Jones as the new Traffic Commissioner for Wales. He starts work on May 1st, 2007.
Traffic commissioners are appointed to one of eight traffic areas - six in England and one each in Wales and Scotland. Nick Jones will act as commissioner for two areas (West Midlands and Welsh). The Traffic Commissioners are responsible for regulating the road haulage and bus industries. They administer the licensing system for operators of heavy goods vehicles and public service vehicles and determine the fitness of drivers of these vehicles to hold vocational licences. They oversee the bus registration system for local bus services and can take action against operators who fail to run services in accordance with registered particulars.
Nick Jones replaces David Dixon who retired on 31st March.
Mr Jones has worked in courts in Nottinghamshire, Kent, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and West Mercia. For the last two years he has been a senior crown prosecutor in both Birmingham and Hereford.For over a decade he has been a member of NACRO's National Race Issues Advisory Committee.
