Barry Scarr has been appointed as finance commissioner for troubled Woking Borough Council.
Scarr will focus on ensuring the council is driving forward efforts to secure the borough’s ‘long-term financial sustainability’, according to an appointment letter from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
He replaces Carol Culley, who left to take up the role of executive director of finance at Birmingham City Council.
Scarr has previously held senior finance roles assisting in the financial recovery of Liverpool City Council, Northamptonshire County Council and Bradford City Council.
He has also been involved with improvement boards at Middlesbrough and Windsor & Maidenhead Councils.
