Matthew Taylor MP has been named the new chair of the National Housing Federation, after being elected for a three-year term at the organisation¹s AGM in Birmingham. He will stand down as an MP at the next election.
As the Liberal Democrat MP for Truro and St Austell in Cornwall, Mr Taylor held various positions, including party chairman from 2003 to 2005 and Treasury spokesman.
He was also author of last year¹s review on rural housing, commissioned by the Prime Minister.
Mr Taylor said: ³We all got used to the world as it was pre-credit crunch.
But that world is not going to come back. So, the funding models housing associations have developed so successfully to deliver decent homes and excellent community services are not going to deliver in the same way.
³Given that government funding is going to be sharply cut back, it is inevitable that they will have to look for new ways to deliver.
³There¹s going to be a lot of re-invention, and housing associations and the Federation need to be central to the shaping of what comes next.²
Mr Taylor succeeds BPHA chief executive John Cross, who served as Federation chair for a three-year term.
