The NHS owes Cambridgeshire County Council £13m for adult social care services, a report has revealed.

The debt has risen from £1.4m in March 2023: an increase of £11.6m.

A council report says officers are ‘very activity engaging’ with the integrated care board to recover the money.

About 5% of the overdue amount is in dispute.

Money owed to the council by adult social care users has also risen by 16% from £16.6m in March 2023 to £19.3m in March 2024.

Cambridgeshire said adult social care client debt had been rising steadily over the past three years, adding that other county councils had seen similar increases.

The council wrote off £792,000 worth of client debt in 2023-24.

It said it planned to recover unpaid amounts by cutting down its financial assessment backlog, improving recruitment of relevant officers and improving its data on debt.
