The Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough has paid tribute to train driver Shaun Burton, who died in Friday's train collision near Bedford.
Paul Bristow said he was 'devastated' to hear of Mr Burton's death, describing him as a well-loved colleague and member of the community whose loss had prompted an outpouring of tributes from those who had worked with him.
Mr Burton, from Huntingdonshire, was also known for his public service, having served as both a Huntingdonshire district councillor and parish councillor for The Stukeleys.
Mayor Bristow extended his thoughts to Mr Burton's family and friends and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the collision. He also paid tribute to rail staff, emergency services and members of the public who responded to the incident.
The mayor called for a full investigation into the circumstances of the collision to prevent a similar tragedy from occurring again.
