MPs urged to examine local government pension scheme

The chair of a leading pensions body has called for MPs to examine the local government scheme.

Chair of the Local Authority Pension Fund Forum, Cllr Kieran Quinn, said he was keen for the Communities and Local Government Committee to look at the issues facing the sector, including affordability and the impact of pooling England and Wales’ 89 funds into eight by next April.

Cllr Quinn accepts that local government austerity has had an impact on the scheme but is adamant that it remains affordable.
