Deficits in SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) budgets are among the top concerns for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Members questioned mandarins from the Department for Education (DfE) on the statutory override for deficits, which could leave 43% of councils at risk of issuing a section 114 notice when it expires in 2026 if no action is taken.
