The number of local authorities impacted by Capita’s most recent data breach has risen to five.
A cyberattack on the revenues and benefits software supplier in March put files stored by councils in a cloud-based data storage system at risk.
Rochford District Council expressed ‘disappointment‘ with Capita on Wednesday and said it was working with the company to ‘understand the full extent of the data breach and take any necessary steps to minimise any impact on residents.’
A spokesperson for Coventry City Council, which has also been affected, said they were ‘belatedly informed’ of the potential historic data breach.
‘We are extremely concerned and disappointed by this news, not just because we take such matters very seriously but also the length of time it took to alert us,’ they said.
As well as Rochford and Coventry, South Staffordshire, Colchester and Adur and Worthing councils have been affected.
A statement from Capita said: ‘Capita is working closely with all appropriate regulatory authorities and with customers, suppliers and colleagues to notify those affected and take any remaining necessary steps to address the incident.’
