Labour leader Keir Starmer will today promise local authorities stronger powers to tackle anti-social behaviour in town centres.

Speaking at the Labour Party Conference, Mr Starmer will tell delegates that Labour’s Community Policing Guarantee will ‘make streets safe again’.

The Labour leader will pledge guaranteed town centre patrols through 13,000 more neighbourhood police and PCSOs on the streets.

The Community Policing Guarantee will provide stronger powers for local councils, police and courts to introduce ‘zero tolerance zones’ in town centres to stop antisocial behaviour.

Criminal damage affecting town centres is up nearly 20% on pre-pandemic levels, and more than 20 million people have personally experienced or witnessed anti-social behaviour in the last 12 months, according to Labour.

Mr Starmer will promise that if Labour were to win there would be more police on the streets and new powers to ban repeat offenders from town centres and stamp out public drinking and drug use.

He will also promise that Labour will ‘get Britain building’ if they win, unleashing a ‘big build’ that ensures ‘the winner this time will be working people, everywhere.’
