LEPs told to improve ahead of EU funding changes

Fresh concerns have emerged about local enterprise partnerships (LEP) as the Government considers whether to use them to funnel UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) cash.

In information submitted to the Public Accounts Committee, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), Melanie Dawes, reported that a series of checks had found ‘significant areas for improvement’.

Ms Dawes wrote: ‘The annual conversations highlighted that some LEPs could improve management of their expenditure.

'For example, some LEPs have significantly low levels of expenditure and had struggled to manage multiple budgets.
