Bristol and Belfast are the most congested cities in the UK, according to new traffic figures.
The 2012 Congestion Index, published by TomTom, shows that the average journey for drivers in Belfast takes 32% longer than it would if traffic was moving freely. In Bristol, this figure is 31% longer.
London is third in the index (27.5%) with the congestion charge helping to improve journey times.
TomTom’s head of traffic, Ralf-Peter Schafer, said local authorities could use the data to plan future transport policy.
He said: ‘This detailed knowledge of the entire road network, helps businesses and governments make more informed decisions about how best to tackle and avoid congestion.’
