Hudson to be chief planner with ODPM minister

SEEDA Executive Director for Development & Infrastructure, Paul Hudson, has been appointed by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister as their new chief planner. He will take up the appointment in June.

Paul has been with SEEDA since its creation in 1999, responsible for the Agency's physical development, urban renaissance, statutory planning, housing and utilities programmes.

During this time with SEEDA he has progressed the Agency's programmes for the growth areas in Ashford, Milton Keynes and Thames Gateway. Some of the flagship development projects he has been responsible for include Chatham Maritime, the former Kent Coalfields, Southampton and Cowes Waterfront on the Isle of Wight.

SEEDA's Chief Executive, Pam Alexander commented: "We shall be extremely sorry to see Paul leave SEEDA, as I know all his colleagues across the region will be. However, his new appointment is a demonstration of the high personal standing he has developed within the region and his professionalism and I am sure that he will make a great success of this new role."

He is a Board member of many partnership organisations in the region; the joint venture established with Countryside Properties to develop the award winning residential scheme on St Mary's Island on Chatham Maritime; and has long been the Vice Chairman of the Kent Architecture Centre, established to promote better standards of design.

Before joining SEEDA, Paul was Chief Executive of Locate in Kent, the Inward Investment Agency for the County. Prior to that, he was the City Technical Director for Rochester upon Medway City Council during the 1990's. This followed a period as Director of Travers Morgan Consulting Group in Cambridge.

He started his career 1971 in the Planning Department of Kent County Council, and left as Assistant Director of Economic Development in 1989, having been involved in many major development projects in Kent, particularly the early development proposals for what is now Kings Hill, the reuse of Chatham Naval Dockyard and the Channel Tunnel and Channel Tunnel Rail Link. He has been a professional planner and a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute for over 30 years.
