The UK will have its 16th housing minister in 12 years after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s sweeping reshuffle affected the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Rachel Maclean, who had been housing minister under local government secretary Michael Gove, was today sacked by Mr Sunak, as he prepared the Cabinet and ministerial team likely to fight the next General Election.

The move came as a shock to Ms Maclean, who was only appointed to the post earlier this year.

Lee Rowley has been appointed as the new housing minister. He has been replaced as local government minister by Simon Hoare.
