The multimillion-pound Birmingham Intelligent Transport Network scheme, announced this week, will continuously analyse real-time data on congestion, parking availability and public transport services.
It will then give transport-users across the conurbation online access to constantly-updated, integrated travel information via the web, mobile phones or in-vehicle devices.
A summer 2009 trial run on the A38, one of the city’s busiest routes, will demonstrate the scope for improving traffic flows and aim to attract funding for a five-year roll-out.
Leading the project is the Birmingham Science City Partnership, with support from Birmingham City Council, Digital Birmingham, Coventry University Enterprises, Microsoft and map software developer Shoothill.
