Highways: Birmingham’s easy-access map is a step in the right direction

The best routes for pedestrians and cyclists across Birmingham have been highlighted in a new map published this week. The map, launched by the city council’s cabinet member for transport, Cllr Len Gregory, at Birmingham’s annual transport summit, features colour codes for different routes, including those adjacent to roads, traffic-free routes through green spaces, or along canal towpaths, or on unsurfaced routes – the latter being suitable for mountain bikes, walkers and ‘all-terrain child buggies’. The map also advises cyclists to keep to safe speeds where sharing space with pedestrians. Maps are available from Birmingham. @: cycling@birmingham.gov.uk
