Hastings' financial controls 'not fully developed'

Senior Hastings BC councillors will be urged next week to ‘bring in and embed more stringent financial controls and accountability to urgently reduce spending’.

A leaked Local Government Association corporate peer challenge report last month warned the council may be forced to issue a section 114 notice this financial year unless it makes massive financial cuts.

The report, which has now been published and will be discussed by the council’s cabinet next Monday, described Hastings’ financial controls as ‘not fully developed yet’.

It read: ‘Savings have been identified for 2023-24 through to 2025-26 but the detail that sits behind the headline numbers is not clear.
