Go greener, Birmingham council told

Birmingham City Council must take a bolder approach to sustainability and follow the examples set by other local authorities, according to a year-long scrutiny inquiry into sustainability and climate change.
The Sustainability and Climate Change Scrutiny report says the council must get its ‘own house in order before we can expect others to do the same’. It recommends the council adopt a clear definition of sustainability and carbon neutrality which will underpin key decisions, corporate processes and procedures.
It also proposes either the creation of a cabinet member for sustainability and climate change, or the reallocation of duties between cabinet members to establish clearly identified leadership of sustainability issues.
