Glasgow is the first Scottish City to have been chosen to participate in the Joined-Cities Plan. This £11M scheme initiated by the Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) will help cities deploy a network of recharging points for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The scheme has been created to support the roll-out of a single national network that will ultimately enable plug-in vehicles to be easily used and re-charged at any location in the city.
Local Authorities and electricity distributors will work together to create a re-charging infrastructure where consumers can easily plug their electric vehicles into the mains in any of the following UK cities, including: Birmingham, Glasgow, Coventry, London, Middlesbrough, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Oxford and Sunderland.
As the only Scottish city to be involved in the project, Glasgow will be working with ETI and Scottish Energy to roll out an extensive network of charging locations from 2011 onwards.
