Gateshead to look at bring housing back in-house

Gateshead MBC is to formally consult on proposals to bring its housing services back in-house.

Senior councillors made the decision following a review into the council’s housing stock, which is currently managed by arms-length organisation Gateshead Housing Company.

Gateshead’s cabinet member for housing, Cllr John Adams, said: ‘The Gateshead Housing Company was set up in 2004 to help unlock funding through the Government’s Decent Homes Programme, which has now ended.

'While that was the best option at the time we now need to look at new, more cost-effective and efficient ways to deliver the best service we can for tenants.’
