Labour mayors frustrated by the lack of fiscal devolution are holding back from stepping up their lobbying, The MJ understands.

Mayors had made the case for fiscal devolution to the previous Conservative Government but experts said they had been quieter since the election of the Labour Government last year, with chancellor Rachel Reeves' Treasury believed to have directly spiked the inclusion of a tourism tax in the English Devolution White Paper.
