The filmmaker Gareth Edwards has been honoured by his home town with a freedom of the borough.
Mr Edwards, who directed the Star Wars spinoff Rogue One, has been nominated for two Oscars for best sound and visual effects for his latest movie, The Creator.
Last night, he was one of eight people to be made an honorary freeman or freewoman by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.
The council said the award ‘is given to an individual who has given exceptional service to the borough and its communities over a long period of time or someone who has brought renown and great kudos to the borough’.
Council leader Kris Wilson said: ‘Through these awards we aim to continue to restore civic pride in the borough.
‘It is an honour to provide these distinctive individuals this reward for their efforts for their dedication and unwavering service to Nuneaton and Bedworth.’
