Four councils that came together in a bid to provide improved and more cost-effective environmental services are expected to move away from joint commissioning.
Croydon, Kingston upon Thames, Merton and Sutton LBCs awarded an initial eight-year contract to Veolia in 2017 as part of the South London Waste Partnership (SLWP).
But now officers have recommended not extending the contract after three of the London boroughs complained about standards of service.
SLWP partnership director Andrea Keys said: ‘This contract has delivered substantial cost savings, a significant reduction in general rubbish and a step-change in recycling.
'There is a lot to be very proud of.’
The SLWP is expected to continue to act as a central resourcing and coordination function, provide strategic oversight for waste management, and manage six household reuse and recycling centres.
