A former Big Brother housemate has been elected to a council seat in east London as Reform UK swept to a landslide victory in the borough of Havering.

Alex Sibley, 47, who appeared on the third series of Big Brother in 2002 and later worked as a model and TV presenter, won the Emerson Park ward with 1,255 votes.

His election was part of a dramatic night for Reform in Havering, which became the party's first London borough. Reform now holds 39 of the 55 seats on the council.

The result was devastating for the Conservatives, who were wiped out entirely — losing all 14 of their seats. Labour held two of their four seats, while three independents were also returned.

The real lesson of Andy Burnham's Makerfield success, argues Dr Jonathan Carr-West, is that place – not personality – is the key to Britain's future.
